Whale Who Bought Ethereum at $0.31 Awakens After 9 Years, Begins Selling

An early Ethereum investor who bought at $0.31 sold 1,500 ETH worth approximately $3.5 million after nine years of inactivity.

According to an October 26 post by on-chain analytics platform Lookonchain, the whale paid a total of $31,000 for 100,000 ETH in Ethereum’s initial coin offering (ICO). Following this latest sale years later, the investor still holds approximately $113 million worth of Ethereum.

A sale breaks nine years of silence

Lookonchain valued the 1,500 ETH sold by the long-inactive investor at $3.46 million. What makes the transaction notable is not just its size, but that an investor who entered Ethereum at a price of $0.31 has become active again after nine years.

The whale still holds 48,500 ETH

Following the latest sale, the investor holds 48,500 ETH. According to the valuation in the post, this balance is worth $112.7 million, or about 33 times the dollar value of the latest sale.

The post does not provide details of other movements between the initial purchase of 100,000 ETH and the current balance. The reported latest sale was limited to 1,500 ETH, while the early investor’s large remaining balance stands out.
