Worst Month in History for Bitcoin ETFs: $4 Billion Outflow Shakes Market

US-based spot Bitcoin ETFs are poised to record their worst monthly performance in history, with $4.06 billion in net outflows recorded this month.

Things are not going well on the fund side, which gauges the pulse of institutional investors in cryptocurrency markets. According to data shared by SoSoValue, a total of $4.06 billion in net outflows occurred from the funds throughout June. This figure surpassed the previous record of $3.56 billion seen in February 2025, marking the highest monthly redemption of all time.

The $1.79 billion outflow experienced last week became the second-highest weekly loss seen since the funds began trading in January 2024. Expectations for increased demand following SpaceX’s IPO earlier this month have given way to intense selling pressure. The total outflow approaching $6.5 billion over the last two months, in particular, highlights the extent to which institutional appetite in the market has waned.

Decline in Institutional Demand Weighs on Bitcoin Price

The depletion in these funds, which allow institutional investors to invest in Bitcoin (BTC) through a regulated structure, is directly reflected in prices. The sharp downward trend on charts and the intensifying red sell candles serve as proof of the market’s pessimism. While the Bitcoin price lost approximately 30 percent of its value in the first half of the year, this situation left the leading cryptocurrency trailing behind many other asset classes.

Not only Bitcoin but also crypto-focused companies took their share of this negative outlook. Shares of MicroStrategy (MSTR), known for its Bitcoin reserves, experienced a significant drop of 45 percent during the same period. With total net outflows reaching $5 billion as of the first half of 2026, it indicates that institutional interest must be revitalized for the market to recover.
