Massive 19,610-Unit Move by Bitcoin Whales: Door to $70,000 Opens as Retail Flees
While large investors on the Bitcoin (BTC) network accumulated 19,610 new assets in the $63,000 to $65,000 range, retail investors’ withdrawal from the market due to security concerns is strengthening expectations on the path to $70,000.
While the Bitcoin (BTC) price moves within a specific range in the cryptocurrency market, wallet data reveals a massive divergence. According to current on-chain data shared by Santiment, large-scale investors known as “whales” and “sharks” continue to buy aggressively. In contrast, retail investors holding less than 0.01 Bitcoin (BTC) are reducing their holdings, carrying out the sharpest sell-off wave since December 2024.
Since July 29, wallets holding between 10 and 10,000 Bitcoin (BTC) have accumulated a total of 19,610 new coins. During this period, major players utilized the levels where the price was in the $63,000 to $65,000 band as an accumulation zone. On the flip side, however, a 0.55% decrease was observed in retail investors’ holdings. As clearly seen in the shared analysis charts, while the accumulation curve for large wallets gained upward momentum, the amount of assets held by small investors showed a sharp decline.
Bitcoin Whales and Retail Investor Divergence
A software vulnerability in Coldcard hardware wallets stands out as the primary trigger for this divergence. Losses due to a bug in the system securing the wallets led to fear and loss of trust among small investors, accelerating individual sell-offs. Additionally, regulatory uncertainty known as the CLARITY Act and stagnant price action are among other factors causing retail investors to pull away from the market.
Experts state that such intensive accumulation by key stakeholders is a positive signal for the market. While small investors panic-sell their assets, large wallets’ direct absorption of this supply weakens the probability of the Bitcoin (BTC) price falling below $60,000. Current on-chain data indicates that the likelihood of the price rising to $70,000 and above is much higher than the probability of a decline to lower levels.
