Standard Chartered has launched a new service for corporate customers in Hong Kong that transfers deposits between banks in real time.
Now available in Hong Kong, the service allows companies to move deposits in their bank accounts to other banks through blockchain-based infrastructure.
The transferred tokenized deposits remain money held at a bank; they do not need to be converted into stablecoins issued by private companies. Businesses can transfer their funds outside normal banking hours as well. Final settlement of payments is made in central bank money.
Interbank digital payments expand in Hong Kong
The service launch coincided with the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) expanding Project EnsembleTX to 24-hour settlement. The authority said 12 banks and 20 companies are participating in the project, which aims to support tokenized deposits and digital asset transactions. The project launched as a pilot in November 2025.
Standard Chartered uses its own blockchain system and infrastructure developed by the HKMA for the service. The bank is also working with Fireblocks to connect the service to digital asset customers; Hashkey has also joined the initiative.
