Bitwise Head of Research Ryan Rasmussen stated during a program he attended that investors are underestimating Circle’s potential. According to Rasmussen, the stablecoin market, which is currently at around $300 billion, will reach a massive size between $3 trillion and $5 trillion in the coming period.
Rasmussen emphasizes that viewing Circle merely as a stablecoin issuer is a major mistake. He states that the company has moved beyond a reserve-based business model to establish a comprehensive payment infrastructure. Noting that this expansion strategy has not yet been correctly priced by the market, the expert predicts that Circle will be in the same league as global payment giants like Visa and Mastercard in the future.
A New Payment Infrastructure in the Stablecoin World: Arc Blockchain
One of the most critical pieces of Circle’s vision stands out as the Arc blockchain. Rasmussen defines Arc as a Layer-1 blockchain designed to facilitate stablecoin payment activities. This technological move allows the company not only to produce digital assets but also to control the rails on which these assets are transferred.
According to Rasmussen, new ventures in the industry such as OpenUSD and banks’ own stablecoin projects do not pose a threat to Circle. On the contrary, he believes the market will grow fast enough to accommodate these new players. As stablecoin regulations in the US become clearer, Circle is expected to pull ahead of its competitors with its current market share and compliance advantage. Investors need to closely follow how integrated the Arc infrastructure will become with the traditional financial system and the company’s changing economic model.
