Bitcoin Whale Wakes After Years, Empties $378 Million Wallet

A Bitcoin whale that had been inactive for years transferred all 4,582 BTC from its wallet, worth approximately $378 million.

According to data shared by on-chain analytics platform Lookonchain on October 13, a wallet belonging to a longtime Bitcoin investor who had not transacted for a long time became active again. The transfer covered the entire 4,582 BTC balance in the wallet.

The Bitcoin transferred was valued at $377.58 million at the time of the post. The transfer of the entire balance after years of silence drew attention, but the post did not specify the purpose of the transfer or whether the recipient addresses belonged to an exchange.

Another dormant whale had moved five days earlier

In a separate event dated October 8, recalled in Lookonchain’s latest post, another whale with an address beginning bc1q4h that had not transacted for more than four years transferred 4,500 BTC. That transaction was also valued at approximately $376 million at the time of the post.

Notifications about the two separate wallets came five days apart. The inactivity period for the wallet involved in the latest transfer was described only as “years,” while the whale in the October 8 transaction had been inactive for more than four years.
