Government Blow to AI Giant Anthropic: Its 2 Most Powerful Models Shut Down
The US government’s decision to shut down Anthropic’s most powerful AI models due to national security concerns caused a sharp decline in the company’s pre-IPO share values.
Anthropic, one of the leading names in the AI world, was shaken by an unexpected order from the US government. The government demanded the immediate cessation of activities for the company’s two most advanced models, Fable 5 and Mythos 5. This development was immediately reflected in contracts traded on cryptocurrency markets that reflect the company’s future market value.
According to data on the Hyperliquid platform, futures contracts tracking Anthropic shares lost 3.7 percent in value on Saturday, falling to approximately $1,627. These contracts, which reached a record high above the $1,800 range after the launch of Fable 5, gave back some of their gains due to the government’s intervention. Currently, the open interest in these contracts stands at around $8.6 million.
National Security Decision and AI Models
In the instruction sent to Anthropic, the US government expressed concerns that the models’ security vulnerabilities could be exploited. Although there was a request to block foreign nationals’ access to these models, the company decided to shut down the systems completely for all users. Anthropic officials argue that the “jailbreak” method—meaning bypassing the firewall—alleged by the government is quite narrow in scope and that similar situations can be observed in other models like OpenAI‘s GPT-5.5.
The company is preparing to refute the government’s decision with technical data to protect its security-focused brand image. This crisis occurring before the IPO process is testing investor confidence in the project, while experts are eagerly waiting to see if the decision will be reversed. It is stated that if these restrictions become permanent, new model deployments not only for Anthropic but across the entire AI sector could come to a standstill. The future of these systems, which sit at the center of the technology world, seems to depend on the government’s next move.
