Is the Era of the Ethereum Foundation Ending? Giants Meet at a New Hub
Giant institutional investors and former foundation researchers in the Ethereum ecosystem have established a new independent research center called Ethlabs to shape the future of the network.
As a significant structural shift occurs within the Ethereum world, leading names in the ecosystem are joining forces. Senior researchers who served for many years within the Ethereum Foundation have launched the non-profit Ethlabs organization to support the network’s development. This new entity aims for Ethereum to grow through a pluralistic and independent structure, without being tied to a single center.
On the financing side of the project, highly powerful names are involved. SharpLink Gaming, Bitmine Immersion Technologies, and Ethereum co-founder and Consensys CEO Joe Lubin—also featured in the image—are supporting this initiative. Lubin emphasizes that such independent “stewardship nodes” are critically important for the protection and global adoption of the network. The Ethlabs team consists of five former foundation employees specialized in technical areas like scalability, data availability, and protocol economics.
A Pluralistic Era Begins in the Ethereum Ecosystem
Among Ethlabs’ primary goals are increasing transaction speeds and strengthening the infrastructure for institutional investors. The team, which will focus particularly on stablecoins and the tokenization of real-world assets (RWA), aims to solidify Ethereum’s dominance in these fields. According to current data, while Ethereum hosts 53 percent of the $300 billion stablecoin market, it also holds approximately half of the $32 billion tokenized asset market.
This initiative represents the decentralization of development responsibility to a broader base following high-level departures from the Ethereum Foundation. Ethlabs commits to transparently sharing all its research with the public. Established with the support of institutional investors, this center supports Ethereum’s (ETH) vision of being the neutral and robust foundation for the future on-chain economy.
