Deutsche Bank Plans Bitcoin Custody Services for Institutions in Europe: Pending Approval
Deutsche Bank plans to launch Bitcoin and other digital asset custody services for its institutional clients in Europe this year.
German lender Deutsche Bank is preparing to offer digital asset custody services to its institutional and corporate clients in Europe. According to the bank’s statement, the launch of the planned service will be subject to regulatory approval.
In the initial phase, support for Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), USDC, EURC and EURAU is planned. Deutsche Bank will manage its clients’ wallets and private keys itself. This will allow institutions to hold digital assets and transfer them to third parties without building their own custody infrastructure.
Which clients will Deutsche Bank’s service cover?
The initial client group will include corporations, asset managers, hedge funds, custodians, brokers and sovereign institutions. The service will focus on clients served by the bank’s corporate and investment banking units.
Deutsche Bank plans to utilize hardware-based key protection, multi-approval mechanisms, and segregated hot and cold storage environments in its digital asset custody service. Backup and recovery controls will also be part of the system. External technology and infrastructure providers will be utilized for certain technical components.
The bank may expand the list of supported assets in the future based on client demand, product approval processes, risk management and regulatory requirements. Tokenized financial instruments are also on Deutsche Bank’s future product roadmap.
