Two brothers who held a family at gunpoint for nine hours in the U.S. while targeting $8 million in crypto assets were sentenced to 15 and 15.5 years in prison after evidence left behind led to their arrest.
According to a report by The Block, citing a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Minnesota, Texan Raymond Christian Garcia was sentenced to 15 years, while his brother, Isiah Angelo Garcia, was sentenced to 15 years and 6 months in prison. The ruling, announced on October 30, concerned an armed robbery in Minnesota in September 2025. The brothers pleaded guilty in June to interference with commerce by robbery.
They tried to gain access to crypto accounts at gunpoint
During the attack, Isiah Garcia forced the family’s father to log in to his crypto accounts and transfer his assets to a wallet address provided by his brother. The family was held at gunpoint for about nine hours.
The brothers later learned that the father also stored assets in a hard-drive-like crypto wallet at a cabin three hours away. The incident entered a new phase when the victim’s son called 911; the brothers fled, but the traces they left behind helped police find them.
A food receipt, motel records, and a rental car
Investigators considered a Wendy’s food receipt, security camera footage showing Raymond Garcia checking into a motel room in Roseville, Minnesota, and rental car information together. This evidence led police to the brothers’ home in Waller, Texas.
Christopher D. Dotson, the FBI Minneapolis Field Office’s Special Agent in Charge, described the attack as a highly violent act directed at a specific target. Dotson said the brothers entered a home, threatened the family with a gun for hours, and kidnapped one person.
